Since it's a re-loadable "bank account" of sorts, they're apparently required, by law, to collect your SS#. If you get a $25 Green Dot prepaid Visa as a "gift card" from someone and choose to open the account, they charge you a monthly fee of $5.95 so it's pretty much wiped out in 4 months anyways.
Then they keep charging you a couple of additional months so it's in the negative and you end up owing them money.
It might have it's uses in some areas but as a "gift card", it's just doing more harm than good, IMO, to trust them with your SS#. Toss it in the can, it'll do you less harm that way.
Review about: Green Dot Corporation Gift Card.
Reason of review: Be more descriptive n the front of the card packaging about requiring personal info so people don't mistakenly purchase this card as a gift card and move on to a Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Apple or Outback gift card or anything of more value as a gift. .
Monetary Loss: $25.
